2006 Bordeaux Tasting at K+L in Redwood City

Last weekend I went over to K+L in Redwood city to taste 2006 Bordeaux Wines. They poured 11 wines including a 1970 La Lagun (amazing to have the opportunity to taste a wine of this age), the second label of Chateua Latour, and a Sauterne. The highlights of the tasting were the La Lagun, Chateau Nenin (a wine made of at least 75% Cabernet Franc) and the Sauterne. Very much worth the trip to Redwood City.

Sake Tasting

Yesterday I went to Berkeley with one of my best friends Andrew to check out wine.com. They have an amazing operation - it is one of the largest online wine retailers and we got a peak into how an online operation runs. On our way back to the car we came across the Takara Sake Company. Who would ever think that Sake is made in Berkeley but it is. We had an amazing tasting - of the four traditional types of Sake along with some special small lot Sake's. For anyone going to the Berkeley area I would highly recommend visiting them.

Wine Tasting

Last night I opened up a bottle of Avalon Napa 2005. I got this on the suggestion of a friend. For a 11.99 bottle it is hard to beat. They got fruit from different parts of Napa and blended together. If you are looking for a specific district of Napa wine - this might not be your best choice. But if you are looking for a great every night type of bottle this one is for you.

Napa Trip

The trip to Napa on Friday was beautiful. Driving in on Highway 12 - the vines were just starting to break bud. It looked beautiful and looks like a good season so far. We drove straight up highway 29 to St. Helena. The winery was as beautiful as ever. We had a private tour - we got to see the original Bergfeld Winery Building - it is now in the middle of a warehouse - nobody knows why the warehouse was built around the original building. The building looked beautiful. I also got to see what the new tasting room will taste like 18 months from now. Frank Gehry has designed the new complex. The tasting room will be all glass with this mesh web of wood over it. Amazing concept and I cannot wait to see it completed. I got to finish tasting the portfolio of wines - the two wines I had not tasted were the Kathryn Hall and Bergfeld Cabernets - they were both beautiful and I look forward to my shipment of the Kathryn Hall in September... Couldn't have asked for better weather or company.

Napa Trip

Tomorrow I am going to one of my favorite wineries in Napa for a tour and tasting. I will be going to Hall Wines http://www.hallwines.com/. I joined their wine club a few weeks ago - as they specialize in bordeaux varietals and are a boutique winery. I am hoping on posting some photos of my trip. Keep coming back to my blog for updates on my adventures.

My first blog

Hi,
This blog is a new venture for me as I explore the world of wine and hopefully build a new business in the wine trade. Wine has always been a hobby of mine so I decided to make a career of it. On this blog I will keep you updated as my business ideas develop and I will also post stories about my trips into the wine country and any good wines I taste. Cheers to a new adventure.
